Yasutsuna Wakizashi

Nagasa: 54.2cm

Mihaba (Machi): 3.2cm, (Yokote): 2.2cm

Sori: 1.5cm

Kasane: 0.7cm

Nakago: Ubu, 1 mekugi-ana. Mei: Awa No Kami Fujiwara Yasutsuna.

Yasutsuna, originally from Oumi province and later moved to Osaka, worked in the Oumi-Ishido School (1673-1681). Yasutsuna earned his "Awa No Kami" title while working in Oumi province before his move to Osaka. Smiths from the Ishido School worked heavily in the Bizen tradition. Yasutsuna, Student of Yasuhiro, is said to have worked in close relation to Tatara Nagayuki, another famed smith from the Kii Ishido School. Smiths from the Ishido School were the absolute best at producing Bizen work during the Shinto period and are said to be direct descendants from the Ichimonji School.

This wakizashi displays a very active Choji-midare hamon with nioi. Tobiyaki can also be seen in a few areas. The forging is a tight ko-itame. Boshi is ko-maru.

The Mihaba is very wide with thick Kasane. A very wide and powerful sword, a nice feature seen from most Ishido work. The suguta is quite nice and displays prominent funbari.

Bo hi carvings and a hormono can be seen from the photos.

There a so many qualities in this sword that are similar to Ko-Bizen work. I'm sure after a professional Japanese polish many of the swords true activities will be seen. Utsuri in the hamon, hataraki, ji-nie etc.

The sword is stored in a military style saya. Two piece copper habaki. The tsuba is in fine condition, displays dragons, shi-shi dogs and family mons all in gold. The tsuka is in great condition with ito wrap intact. The samegawa is in good condition and aged well. The fuchi is shakudo and displays the same mon as the tsuba in gold inlays. The kashira is plain shakudo. Menuki look to be shakudo dragons.

There are a few flaws and minor surface rust in areas which can be seen in the photos. This sword would benefit greatly from a professional polish but still can be enjoyed in it's current state.

Asking price: $1,850 USD. Shipping is included in the sale price.
