Travis Clarke Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Ishido School Katana. (1624-1644) Nagasa: 60.96cm Mihaba (Machi): 3.5cm, (Yokote) 2.4cmSori: 1.3cmMune: IoriKasane: 0.8cmBoshi: Ko-MaruHamon: GunomeHada: Ko-ItameNakago: Mumei, Ubu Yasurime: SujikaiThe Ishido school were a group of smiths in Omi province who were said to be the descendants of the Ichimonji school of Bizen province, in whose style they worked. They were one of the rare schools producing utsuri during the Shinto period. During the Kanei era (1624-1644) the group moved first to Wakayama and later to Osaka. The school includes smiths such as Kawachi no Kami Yasunaga and Bizen no Kami Sukekuni. Tatara Nagayuki, one of the finest smiths of the Shinto period, was Yasunaga’s student. Some smiths (e.g. Nagayuki) produced katana with relatively short nagasa. This is an absolute monster of a sword. Although it just barely classifies as a katana in length, it is a extremely wide, heavy and powerful blade. A very impressive katana to say the least. This sword was recently polished by Koichi Eto, Student of Hirai Matsuba (brother of Honnami Nisshu, a living national treasure). The polish on this sword is incredible. It was also recently submitted to the NTHK-NPO in Japan and attributed to Ishido School. I'm sure it can be narrowed down to a specific smith with further research.A great opportunity to own a beautiful Ishido School Katana in a phenomenal state of polish for a bargain price. This sword is priced just over the cost of restoration and papers at $3,800 USD plus shipping. Travis Clarke Posted November 5, 2015 Author Report Posted November 5, 2015 More photos. There is one small flaw that can be seen in the first photo. It is quite small and doesn't detract from the blade overall.
Greg F Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Hi Travis, that is a nice blade, your right about the polish. Good luck with sale. Greg
