Bungo Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I was looking at some old bills and realized it could get expensive to send sword to Japan for shinsa. Now I am talking just hozon paper here................. there's the usual shipping/insurance fee and the agent ( stateside ) fee. :? What's shocking is the Japanese side agent's commission.........not going to name that famous Japanese agent ( yes, you'll recognize the name , very famous )here..........that particular charge is close to 40 % of the total package fee !! Cutting to the chase........it cost me a little over 1300 after it's all done ( all these without having the sword being polished ). So next time you see a sword on any auction sites with NBTHK issued shinsa origami........mentally add 1k to your final max. bid p.s. ask for an exact run down of the cost from your local agent before committing yourself.....I didn't Milt THE ronin Quote
Rich T Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Robert Hughes supplies detailed breakdowns of his charges. He does not charge 40% from memory, but the fee for getting swords in and out of customs is not cheap. I pay about AU$350 for it. Here's another thought, ask the bigger stores for their cost's, like Seikeido, Choshuya Ginza, AOI etc. Shop around, you don't have to use specific agents. Rich Quote
pcfarrar Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 The Aoi Art handling fee is very cheap. It was less than $100 on the last sword I had polished by them. Quote
Stephen Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 does all the leg work for a reasonable price. http://www.bushidojapaneseswords.com/nbthkshinsa.htm Quote
