tokashikibob Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Gentlemen, I bought a nice closeted gunto at a estate sale the other day, as my nihongo kanji skills are still below average I just want to confirm that this is read as being made by a smith named Fujiwara Yoshimitsu in Seki. It is stamped but looks to have nioi on a probable oil tempered blade. Is that common? Best Regards, Bob Quote
Jean Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Mei Confirmed. It is nie which is not seen on oil tempered blade. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 It's Seki Ju yabushita yoshimutsu saku. I don't see nioi, but it could just be the pics Quote
Jean Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 The hamon white line which is easily seen is nioi. Quote
tokashikibob Posted June 18, 2015 Author Report Posted June 18, 2015 Thanks fellas, I don't see much on the net on either Fujiwara Yoshimitsu or Yabushita Yoshimutsu. I guess I need to buy the Gendai referance book next! Jeez! And another set of bookends! Best Regards, Bob Quote
cisco-san Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 Hi, signature is Seki ju Yabushita Yoshimitsu saku (I guess there was just a typo...). from Markus book: YOSHIMITSU (義光), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Yoshimitsu” (義光), real name Yabushita Fujio (藪下不二夫), he was a Seki-based guntō smith Please post some pics from the whole tang resp. from the stamps. Not sure if it is a traditional made blade Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 Whoops - yes typo. Mitsu not Mutsu. Quote
