Stephen Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 do you come up with the translation the seller has? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1447737152 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Hello Stephen. Are you asking about his use of English? Forgive me, but I do not understand your question. Translation of what? Quote
Gabriel L Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Trying it without looking at the listing text, I see: Ura: 平成元年八月吉日 Heisei gannen hachigatsu kichijitsu (lucky day in month 8 of Heisei 1 = 1989) Omote: 肥後國住兼照作之 Higo kuni jū Kaneteru saku kore (Kaneteru, resident of Higo province, made this) Very clear shinsakutō meibun. Now I will look at the listing… he says "Akamatsu Taro Kanetero, a lucky day in August, first year of Heisei (1989)" Well, it's the right smith (赤松太郎兼照) and date, but a typo in Kaneteru, and not a direct translation or transcription (missing the "Higo kuni" etc.). And now that I look, he spells the gō correctly elsewhere in the listing. So… not super confidence-inducing, but at least it's not a mis-ID or something truly egregious. Beautiful huge sword, if the price is right and you want to trust the seller. Quote
Stephen Posted June 25, 2014 Author Report Posted June 25, 2014 I was going with Yoshi not Kane, one of the wilder Kanes i guess Quote
Guido Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 , one of the wilder Kanes i guessYup, probably one of the Oklahoma Kanes - cousin Billy Joe Kane from Tulsa gets into bar fights every weekend! Sorry, I sometimes can't control it ... Quote

Stephen Posted June 25, 2014 Author Report Posted June 25, 2014 This just in from seller Stephen C. This is what I do know, I am the second owner of the blade, the blade was bought from akamatsu in 89, the blade stayed in the kumamoto prefecture until i picked it up around early-mid 2011 right after that bad accident with Fukushima and the flooding. I chose this blade at the time because it was never cut with and being in pristine condition, it was hard to pass up and fortunately the guy that sold it was able to help friends and family. So kinda of a win win. Any how there is a link below to the family forge, they still exist and are alive. You need anything else just ask. http://www.higotsuru.com/akamatsu-taro/ Intersting link, if wishes were horses...ol dad would have new swords Quote
cabowen Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 This family of smiths has been mentioned here several times, usually in regards to fake Kiyomaro/Kiyomaro utsushi blades. Quote
