Edward G Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 I would like any opinions if the signature is shoshin or gimei and which generation? I am posting these pictures for a friend. Hawleys list 2 generations in this time period. The sword appears to be signed TsunaToshi and dated 1832 Any thoughts or opinions are always welcomed. Edward G Quote
cabowen Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 based on the workmanship, it looks pretty good to me... Quote
takakage Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Beware, see nihonto koza shin shinto p 432 and 433. In spite your blade is toran ba hamon Some taganes are stranges.... A friend says me that a toran ba sword is always a good sword, i don't know if it is true or not......... Quote

Jacques Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Hi, I checked all my library which is essential if you want to detect a gimei. However mei seems too weak and lacks of precision. Quote

cabowen Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Don't rush to judgment just yet....I would have the blade submitted to a shinsa before doing anything based on assumptions that may not be true. Quote
