Drago Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 Hi, I'm sorry I do not have any pictures. But I hope my description is clear enough. I've seen some katana that have very small tsuba, almost tanto sized tsuba. They are only a little larger than the fuchi and koiguchi. I'm not talking about aikuchi koshirae. Only example that comes to mind right now: If anyone watches the "Yae no Sakura" Drama, Saigo's katana is like that I think. What is this koshirae style called (if it is one) and does it have a special purpose? Thanks. Quote
Alex A Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 Some late muromachi Tensho koshirae have very small tanto sized tsuba. Alex. Quote
runagmc Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Is this daisho koshirae similar to what you are trying to describe? Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Good morning all, Ref to Yae no Sakura; if I remember correctly, there is a thread or comment stating that during the Bakumatsu, it became quite a fashion to mount small tsuba on katana to show lack of fear etc. Cheers Quote
Drago Posted September 10, 2013 Author Report Posted September 10, 2013 @Adam: Yes, something like that. @Malcolm: Oh, never heard of that. Quote
