hugegator Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 This is my 1st post here, so I hope this is OK to ask. I did read through the Fake link on top, yet still am not sure of what I have here. I got these in a trade yesterday and hope I did OK. They are supposed to be an Officers Sword and the other is unknown. I am hoping someone here might be able to help confirm if they are authentic or not. I'm not going to ask for values as I am afraid to hear just how badly I will pay for being impulsive. Thank you! Thank you for looking! Jim D. Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Originals. The kabutogana(pommel) has the rare manufacturers logo. Sword made by Kanesada. October 1943. Quote
Brian Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 The signed one is original....the other one I guess is 75% chance original...but some things aren't good on it. Maybe just a very late war sword? Anyways, the one has been messed with. The black on the scabbard has been added/painted later, and the tang that is very dark looks artificially patina'd. Possibly cold gun blue? Brian Quote

Wow, I just searched him and found another NCO sword that he did. This very cool stuff. I wanted to get into Gunto just to get a feel for judging blades before spending huge amounts of cash on the older ones. I'm not sure if the unsigned one is cold blued or not. I hope its an original. Dr Fox Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Well done Jim D, good start for a stab in the dark. Denis Quote

Pretty well actually, better than a few Chinese copies I own. The inside of the scabbard does look it is getting worn though. Thank you, Jim D. Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted July 22, 2013 Report Posted July 22, 2013 Its possible to take the woodliner out of the metal scabbard and then se if the blade belongs to the scabbard. But normally type 3 blades has 2 mekugi-ana. Quote
