Jiro49 Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 Doesn’t look like that shape would facilitate drawing the sword Quote
J Reid Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 I notice a couple of "kinks" in the ridges of the hi running down the nakago.. IMO it looks like it was modified. I feel like I've seen this exaggerated style before? But yes- Doesn't seem functionally appropriate as Matt states.. Quote
paulb Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 The kinks in the hi as they run through the nakago suggest it has been heavily ( and badly) modifed and re-shaped during shortening. Quote
Marius Posted June 5, 2013 Author Report Posted June 5, 2013 Yes, I have seen this the same way - a very crude attempt to make a relatively short blade look like a Heian tachi with a pronounced koshi-zori resulting mainly from a slanted nakago. This, BTW, was a characteristic that the early tachi seems to have inherited from the kenukigata no tachi, which, in turn, seems to have inherited it from the warabite-tachi Quote
