reeder Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I was recently offered this but my guy is telling me to run as fast as I can. Additional opinions would be greatly appreciated. My analysis: Habaki doesn't look right As far as I can tell nakago looks okay, don't like where it was drilled Haven't seen just a stainless scabbard or one where it was rubbed to look like this Handle & tsuba look okay Thanks, Brandon Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Looks like a Chinese/non-Japanese blade fitted to legit shingunto tsuka, seppa, and tsuba, with a bad saya (could be a bad pic). Run, don't walk. Quote
reeder Posted April 5, 2013 Author Report Posted April 5, 2013 Run, don't walk. Haha, the more I look at it, the more I don't like it. Gut has said run like hell since the beginning but the handle, and Nakago at first, were throwing me off. I'm glad I have you guys here to prevent me from making mistakes when I get excited over something. Oh, and the parts of the blade I did see were very representative of the Chinese copies. Thanks, Brandon Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Imo it looks like a real one ,but some idiot has chromed the saya. All fittings looks okay to me. Quote
Brian Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 The mounts look good to me, but the blade is......odd. And the curve of that saya Agree that it looks chromed later...seen that before. Would like to see the machi under the habaki. Either way, there will not be good news on this one. Even if it turned out to be original...it would be a bad one. Brian Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 The saya was bent to accommodate the 'aftermarket' blade which is also why the mekugi-ana seem misplaced on the nakago. The 'chrome' effect on the saya is due to the paint breaking off when they bent it. Quote
