CSM101 Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Hi, I know, that the information I want is almost impossible to get. But this is the NMB and perhaps a miracle is just around the corner... You can see part of a tsuba with mon. According to an expert this is the mon of the Suzuki-family (?). So, are there still some members of the family existing and can I get in touch with them? And by the way: Goto??? Thank you Uwe G. Quote
cabowen Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Sure, there are still members of the Suzuki family still alive. About 10 million of them. It is the second most popular surname in Japan. Quote
Brian Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 http://www.asgy.co.jp/anglais/top10family/suzuki.html http://www.asgy.co.jp/anglais/classify/ ... .html#fuji And, as has been mentioned before...towards Meiji period and later, when this tsuba was likely made, mon were not regulated and most ppl could just adopt a mon, so it is seldom that an item with a mon will actually come back to any particular family or person. Frankly, mon on items after the 1800's are pretty meaningless and should not be seen as leads to anything in particular. Good quality fittings though. I don't think they are quite Goto work, but tidy none the less. Brian Quote
CSM101 Posted January 29, 2013 Author Report Posted January 29, 2013 10 million. Oh! Well, the headline says it all. Uwe G. Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Suzuki, Kisaburo (1867-1940) of Chawa-kai rank in the Kizokuin is the last noble I can track of the aproximate time you are interested in. This is a seperate clan from the merchant Suzuki and other class of families. John Quote
CSM101 Posted January 30, 2013 Author Report Posted January 30, 2013 So, here is a photo from the koshirae as a whole. I assume it belonged to a high-ranking samurai. The koshirae seems to be pre 1800. Even if there a many, many Suzukis, I think that there is one family that it could have belonged to. Here we have many, many Quandts. But only one family, that owns BMW. I know, it is a little bit stubborn. But I try it and hope for the best. Uwe G. Quote
