nagamaki - Franco Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Greetings, Our first snowfall of the season this morning seemed like a good enough reason to post something new here nihonto. This is a sword which came out of the woodwork sometime ago now, and according to the family member had virutally sat untouched in a closet since WWII, when it was brought back by the veteran. This wakizashi (23" in length) has a wonderful mixed midare hamon with some togari ba, and is just loaded with uniform size clusters of nie strung all along the hamon. The old, old, polish leaves the hada somewhat obscured, however, it looks to be itame mixed with mokume on the finer side without flaws of any kind. The mounts speak for themselves with the lower half of the katana length saya having been covered in pig skin leaving the condition of the lacquer and mounts pristine. This sword is now in the careful hands of my nephew, who had asked for help in finding his first nihonto. Images are not the best, sorry. Enjoy, comments and observations welcome. more pics coming Quote
