zatoichi Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Can anyone help with what this means? Justin E Quote
kunitaro Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 笹ノ露 Sasa no Tsuyu * Dew on Bamboo leaf When you touch bamboo leaf. dew will drop immediately. It is meaning to say that this blade touch something, it will fall off, like dew on Bamboo leaf. Representing sharpness of the blade. Quote

Baka Gaijin Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Good morning Kunitaro san and Justin Here's another blade with that name: http://www.metmuseum.org/Collections/se ... s/40003096 Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall the one in the link may have belonged to Sir Francis Festing thence to Basil (B.W.) Robinson at one time in the 1950's, but I could be wrong. Here is a link to "Sasa no Tsuyu" from Col Hartley's website, an exhibition in Los Angeles in 1964 (Tachi no 26) http://home.comcast.net/~colhartley/Ori ... dArmor.htm Cheers Quote
Geraint Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Ah, Justin. Must be rather nice to have a sword with kinzogan mei, named like that. (British understatement for, "Wow! Look at that!) Any chance of some more images and a write up? Cheers Quote
DirkO Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Justin, Why did you ask for the translation? It's clearly and correctly stated in the eBay description. And as descriptions go, this is one of the more complete ones on ePrey. - I have no connection to this eBay sale whatsoever - Quote

Jiro49 Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 This was up on ebay before, mayber about a year or so ago. Quote
zatoichi Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 Dirk, I read the description and looked up the kanji for dew and it didn't seem to match. Lots of people on ebay say lots of things, doesn't make them true. I can look up the smiths mei but not the other kanji so just trying to verify. Justin Quote
