Jiro49 Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Just wanted to see what the general consensus is regarding the validity of his origami? Thank you! Quote

nagamaki - Franco Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Many have said he was a very generous person.... A great polisher too! P.S. 'It's the sword that confirms the mei (and origami, and sayagaki, and attribution, too), and not the other way around.' Quote
Jiro49 Posted August 24, 2012 Author Report Posted August 24, 2012 Agreed, but this is a mumei and he added his own comments versus just a plain attribution. Regards, Quote
paulb Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 I have seen a number of swords polished by him, in fact I think I still have one, and agree he was an excellent polisher. I think his papers are regarded as better than most but probably a little less reliable than those produced by the NBTHK or NTHK which are appraised by commitee rather than an individual. Also I think his later work is possible of a less high standard than when he was at the top of his game in mid career. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Agreed, but this is a mumei and he added his own comments versus just a plain attribution. Doesn't matter. If you're home treat it as an open book examination, comparing notes, comments, whatever information you're given to the text book descriptions given. Agree, Paul, plus in later years his students did much of the work. Quote

Jiro49 Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 Jean, I appreciate the link. It's just people are careful with their thoughts when they are written down for everyone to see as to not offend. So I was looking for a candid opinion and I believe Mr. Bowen answered it the best he could considering his position. Regards, Quote
