I have seen a number of swords polished by him, in fact I think I still have one, and agree he was an excellent polisher. I think his papers are regarded as better than most but probably a little less reliable than those produced by the NBTHK or NTHK which are appraised by commitee rather than an individual. Also I think his later work is possible of a less high standard than when he was at the top of his game in mid career.

Agreed, but this is a mumei and he added his own comments versus just a plain attribution.

 

Doesn't matter. If you're home treat it as an open book examination, comparing notes, comments, whatever information you're given to the text book descriptions given.

 

Agree, Paul, plus in later years his students did much of the work.

Jean, I appreciate the link. It's just people are careful with their thoughts when they are written down for everyone to see as to not offend. So I was looking for a candid opinion and I believe Mr. Bowen answered it the best he could considering his position.
