drjoe Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 koto kagemitsu? really? bad photos, but i'm guessing this isn't a kamakura blade. and the oshigata in the 2nd photo doesn't seem to match. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-JP-Swor ... 1c29ec5872 Quote
Jiro49 Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 I saw this and kind of like it.. I asked about the katana mei and the seller stated that it is also seen on Bingo or Bitchu (cant remember) blades during the kamakura jidai.. But it looks sue-bizen to me, plus the boshi would be the san-saku boshi..? But I like it for what it is.... Quote
Jacques Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 Hi, koto kagemitsu? really? No, clearly no. Quote
Jiro49 Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 I know but, for a sue-bizen blade and decent koshirae not a bad deal... But it is kind of funny! Quote
Jiro49 Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 I know, I dont get why its stated as kamakura jidai? Quote
paulb Posted August 8, 2012 Report Posted August 8, 2012 Hi Matt, Bitchu Aoe smiths signed Katana mei during the Kamakura period. I dont see how that is relevant to this or why he mentioned it as he is claiming it is kagemitsu therefore Osafune School. I think this is wrong on so many levels. the hamon is not Kagemitsu if anything I would suggest is more like Sue Seki but certainly Soden Bizen is another option. What I dont believe it is is a Kamakura blade, not even a late one. I also think the polish looks extremely harsh possibly even acid treated but they may just be the images. Quote
Jiro49 Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 Interesting, so is it the same as Hizen smiths signing on the tachi omote? Regards, Quote
paulb Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 Hi Matt, I have no idea why they did it. it is just identified as a feature of that school. there are of course exceptions who signed the traditional way. I can think of no reason for it other than an attempt to differenetiate themselves from the majority. Quote
