  1. Here is the signature on the fan menuki.
  2. Posted a lot and someone suggested separating some of the items out so I wanted to make a thread just for the Menuki. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the Menuki's in general, but from what the papers read, the Monkeys are Ko-Goto and the Trellis is Waki-Goto. I know these come from a very famous line, but I know on the nihonto side of things, the green papers are pretty unreliable but didn't know if the same carried over for Tosogu. The fan menuki does not have papers, but is signed. I believe its signed Mitsumasa, but im having a hard time translating it. Was told it was possibly connected to the Goto line as well, but again not 100%. I've attached the signature below. Again any help would be great, everyone here has been super helpful and kind so far, thanks so much for being such a good community!
  3. Was thinking about doing that but didn't want to spam out the section. Thanks for the help so far!
  4. Recently picked up a new lot of fittings and had some questions I wanted to ask and see If I could get a little bit more information on. Three of the pieces have papers, albeit the older ones. The monkey menuki are attributed to Ko-Goto, the Trellis are attributed to Waki-Goto, and the menuki is signed by Tomihisa. I know for swords, the older papers were much less reliable then the newer post 80s papers, but do the same apply for fitting and would these most likely still be correct or misattributed. The menuki craftsmen has a few different people it can be, so wanted to see if anyone could help with which Tomihisa it could be from. The fan menuki are a bit trickier, these as far as I have done some research on appear to be signed by Mitsumasa, who I believe is the 12th mainline Goto master. However with anything with no papers, I'm skeptical of these being authentic, however the craftsmanship is pretty high quality and the style to me seems to fit the Goto line. On the Tsuba side of things, was wanting to know if anyone has seen a similar squirrel themed tsuba, I have only found one that is somewhat close and appears to be from the Shoami school, but not 100% certain. If anyone had any more info they could share or could confirm anything that I've tried to do some research on, the help would be immensely helpful!
  5. Here is a full blade photo, measures to around 21 inches, with the tang coming in at 5.
  6. Had some amazing help with my last blade that I ended up returning, had one more blade come in with no papers that I'd love some advice on. From what I've translated I believe its signed "Bishū Osafune Sukesada" with the other side inscribed with a test cut " Performed at Edo, two body test cut, on a day in the 8th month of Kansei 8". Obviously assuming its gimei, but I mainly bought the blade because of the nice jihada and curvature of the blade. Would love to see if anyone else had a better/different translation or if it had legs to stand on if it COULD be authentic, and if not I'd love to get some opinions on the age/period the blade would be from.
  7. Hello! Looking for a bit of help/guidance on a new wakizashi I've acquired. This came from a Showa22 auction, someone who I have done some research on here and found some iffy information on. I've read that he acid etches his blades to make the hamon pop and a majority of the signed pieces are Gimei. The only reason I won the auction is because of the free returns so its somewhat of a free play. I've been into nihonto for only about 6 months now and have stuck towards buying pieces that all have NBTHK papers for peace of mind. My question for anyone who can help is; Does this signature/date look legitimate and does the kikumon look good, and has this blade specifically been acid etched. The blade is obviously old, and I've checked a few papered examples of the smith and the signatures do seem to match up decently well, but I'd love to get more options. Thanks to anyone who can give their advice, appreciate it greatly.
  8. Hello! Im looking to acquire both a Kabuto and Menpo for display for my collection. Would be OK working a deal on either or, would appreciate them having a certificate but not a deal breaker. I'm based in the USA and have a decently flexible budget, but would prefer to stick to the low mid thousands. Thank you!
  9. Hello! I am currently looking to buy a Tameshigiri Signature Sword. Dark yet interesting history, I am looking to acquire one for my collection. Would need NBTHK papers to verify the signature and inscription of the blade. Budget is 3-10k, would prefer to stay near the bottom of the range but understand these swords are rare so willing to move on price. Thank you to any and all help!
