  1. Somebody sure does like those tigers! I was kind of expecting a big flurry of bids at close but it looks like the snipers got blown out early on this one. Nice Sale Peter! I suspect we'll be seeing LOTS more items from you?
  2. Neat story too. Can you guys imagine how many good ones (and junky ones) must have passed thru SD on the way home? Tim, are you doing full Kosh on the sword you bought from Peter? I'm just asking because I'm looking for someone to handle the koshirae of a dai-sho for me. I don't want to ship it to Japan.
  3. No argument here Mr. D! Let me know if you need someone to carry your luggage. Did you have something to do with the auction ending early?
  4. I think i paid for the sword to go on a Hawaiian vacation (with the polisher.) It was an aberration and a mistake on my part to not at least ask. The problem was that the mei was on both sides (well mei and date that is) and there was a very distinct patina that I wanted copied. Or maybe I was just impolite in my dealings and got taught a lesson :D
  5. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0028920342 Anyone have any idea about the (supposed) maker? I like the sword, big and lively but I hate buying from EBay.
  6. In a way I feel bad for the guy (getting pinked,) but in another way it annoys me that he's ready to dump her just because of a 3rd party opinion. It's the same sword after all.... I once asked a polisher to remove a gimei sig without asking the price first. Don't EVER do that! It cost me over $1200.
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0029292934. I have no clue how much it would cost to repair the damage on this (I'm betting $5-$6 hundred with postage etc,) but I think it's a nice strong blade with a wild hamon. Just the way I like my useable antiques. To me, it looks like someone used it to cut a (live) electrical wire. The blade looks cooked all around the gouge. I'd probably have to buy it just to save it if I saw it in person.
  8. Is it possible for a re-tempered sword to pass shinsa?
  9. Specifically how, where and for how much the swords were acquired. I'm sure there was quite a bit of coersion used in assembling the great (and good) collections during the Showa period and I would like to study the pressure used to "shake loose" all the Juyo blades donated by the philanthropists to museums worldwide. Any books on the subject or is the mutual shame too great?
  10. Just noticed that the auction is in POUNDS! How quickly drunk people can bid double what they meant to :D
  11. Let's hope that whatever happens, that it stays the realm of the appreciative and respectful collector rather than the speculator. It seems that once speculators become involved, the item is sonically sealed and lost forever to the collector. Just think about coins and the grading system that was made possible by this process.
  12. There are already some pink slipped ones on the Bay
  13. 75 Points? That's pretty darn good! How long have you been submitting/buying/collecting? Congrats!
  14. I was all over this sword until some guy with ZERO FEEDBACK who registered like five years ago started bidding. That was you of course. I assumed it was a shill or a ghost and got out quick. Your sword looks very interesting, my first impression was that it was bought as a project, but on further reflection and EMail with the seller, it seemed that it really is a worthy piece. Good Deal IMHO
