  1. THANK YOU!! thats exactly what i meant!! KM
  2. beautiful koshirae!!! wow! KM
  3. well, i do not nessecarily wat the ubu-ha to be removed from my gimei masayuki, but i got the idea from one of the postings that "gunto" swords with ubu-ha were seen as less valuable.. but i understand what you mean... KM
  4. interesting!!! i will be careful whenever i come across one.. maybe off topic but i am still looking for some Japanese forged kitchen knives (high class) i once saw on a documentary... they also have hamon.... any information on where i could obtain such a set? KM
  5. Almost every blade begins with one then the ubu-ha gradually disapears as more niku is taken off the blade through polish. Ah, I didnt know that... Its just that in another posting someone said that Ubu-ha is a tell tale sign of gendaito, and not of an older blade.... that is why i asked.... but anyway i will definetely let the Togishi decide ultimately... KM
  6. Thank you very much john, I am happy to learn more every day! I practise kendo myself. and indeed we parry more by using the "flat" side... best wishes, KM
  7. Ah thank you, i did not know that... and have difficulty believing it..... i always thought it functioned just like the European hand guard... KM
  8. almost looks like a hamon on the blade!! nice! KM
  9. On the e-bay photos of the guy i can see a clear "crack" /badly forged fold on the cutting edge.... http://members.aol.com/emolinier/hide09.jpg would that be considered a fatal flaw at shinsa? KM personally i would stay away from this one....
  10. Indeed, and i have seen a lot of stuba which wouldnt stand a single parry, which leads me to believe there would have been a classification/division during the Samurai era, like an aesthetic tsuba and a battle ready one... KM
  11. COOL!!!!!! Thank you Stephen!!
  12. OOPSSSSSSSSS hahahahaha well i am actually only interested in tsuba because of their functionality in battle....... really..... KM
  13. Well Milt........... here we go... first one is fake second one is real....... and i dont say that because of the price difference, i say that because of the punch marks... WELLLLLLL????????? KM
  14. Hiya, I have plans to let my "masayuki" be properly polished one day and i would like to have the ubu-ha section sharpened too... (see previous thread pics) Is it common for Togishi to remove the small blunted section just above the habaki when asked ?? KM
  15. eeeeeeerrmmmmmmmm oops............ wish i was rich.......... they sure look good! KM
  16. Ford, what are your prices? KM
  17. Pictures please! KM
  18. Thank you!! I also found a site selling nugui........ (not that i would dare!!!) its just interesting to see how they make the differences in colouring... say..... isnt it a problem with nugui that every time you wipe the blade you lose it? KM
  19. Just picked up the book cutting edge, Japanese swords in the British museum...by Victor harris... very informative!! KM any others have it too?
  20. Hello all... I watched a togishi documentary Brian posted, or at least I think it was him... and my question is how does the Togishi make the colour differences on the blade? ie a whitish hamon, and a darker upper part... I also saw togishi drawing straight lines with a kind of pencil/thick needle on the blade as a sort of signature.. what do they use? do they use "normal" graphite? with what metal or material do they get the darker upper colour? any info more than welcome! best wishes, KM
  21. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! and such a nice price!! Bummer i am not on e-bay at the mo...... stupid e-bay bills..... KM
  22. Must say Milt it sure looks well!!!! no money at the moment though!! so i will have to replate(shikoro) and redo my original (silly) zunari kabuto.....!! KM
  23. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Brilliant!!!!! As we say on the Roman Army forum.... Laudes!!!!!   KM "The location, events and characters depicted in this post are fictious" made me think about the sad story of Dith Pran, the guy who survived the killing fields of cambodia, only to be killed in a street robbery in the USA... Yuckies.....
  24. i see, but what about the connotation of death? shinu ? sine i always hear them say kiru...... translated by kill....... I will cut you (down) ...... I will kill you..... which in my view still isnt the same... KM
