I agree on this, I have seen many members here too focus on the condition of the blade this and that. But they forgot sometimes it’s an 700 years old blade … it’s an antique. I love the history and things the sword witnessed throughout the years. To me it’s has a soul.

Thank you for your information. I do appreciate it, I think im in between that two type of collectors. I’m busy with my life but I still try to learn and understand bit by bit everyday. But I still can’t resist that beauty of a deep sori from a Koto Tachi. Maybe its just me. I will try to look at more and more swords from now before I can buy one at the right price.

This is just my guess, the edge of the blade seem thicker than the one I posted ?. As in it it still has lot of meat .

For me, I like koto blade, long with a deep sori. Some how I just love the way its curve. I want to buy one where I can keep and admire it from time to time.

Hi, This is going to be my first purchase, any advice on this Nihonto ?. According to the dealer the condition is Old polishing, but generally excellent in its present condition for conservation, appreciation. This is all the photo I got. Comes with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon certificate.

For the rust, will oil darken it ?. Dealer asked if I want to get professional remove the red dust, or I can do it myself with oil. What do you think ?

I have little knowledge when it’s come to rust. Is this considering normal for 800 years old Nakago ?. Should i do anything to prevent it spreading further ?. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is rust isn’t it ?

I was more interested in the Koshirae than the actually blade. It was signed by Shigenao full set Koshirae.

I came across this Nihonto from Masahiro 6th generations and was just wondering what is the proper price for this one. And how healthy is the blade. I’m pretty new to this, been learning how to maintenance the blade but no clue on reading the condition of it.

Thank you Francis, your input is really helpful. Im looking to purchase my second Nihonto, since my first one is still on the way from Japan and not sure If I was overpaid for it. It was a Wakizashi early Edo period by Morikuni, signature was really blur and it doesn’t have certification beside the registration. Paid $2000 AUD for it. After doing a bit of research, i found that Koto Tachi will be only nihonto im buying from now. Love the curve and the soul of it.

How can you tell a mumei sword is a Tachi or Katana ? Base on the Curvature or else ?. On the other hand I can see some Katana with Tachi mei as well. I’m a bit confuse here. By the way, I’m after a Koto Tachi with a nice curvature. Been looking through lot of websites but couldn’t find anything less than $6000 with paperwork and blade in great condition. Where do you guys shop ?. Thanks in advance.
