  1. With the advice of you guys of course I did not bid on this sword but it looks like people are. Or perhaps they are fake bids, I don't know. I tried to contact Catawiki about this sword not being genuine but so far it seems I'm being ignored. That's a big negative mark for them as far as I'm concerned. https://www.catawiki.com/en/l/69994175-gunto-shin-gunto-type-95-1-steel-iijima-sword-manufacturing-co-Japan-1935-1945
  2. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.
  3. This sword is up for sale somewhere. It looks real enough to me however I am quite a novice at recognition so I'm running it by you guys. What do you think?
  4. I saw this sword in an online listing and I'm wondering if any of you could educate me on the model type, and also if there are any oddities. It looks real enough to me in any case. Thank you.
  5. @Bruce Pennington Thank you very much for your information and your greetings. In the future I will post my questions regarding other types of swords in a separate post. Regarding my name, that is my initial. For the sake of privacy I reserve my right not to display my real name on any online forums but I can assure you I am a real person with a real name and I have no malicious intent on this website. I hope that statement is satisfactory.
  6. Hello everyone. I once again require your help. Someone is offering this sword in western Europe. What model is this sword and does it appear real? Many parts to me appear real however the handle lacks a certain patina to my untrained eye. The asking price is €2500 which is probably high for what it is, however we have to keep in mind in Europe the prices are higher compared to the states anyways due to relative rarity on the market. I'm sure the price can be haggled anyways. Thank you!
  7. To reply to some of your points @robinalexander. I'm afraid in the European market I can't be too picky about what I want. Indeed a brass handle, matching numbers and all would be nice however those don't pop up frequently here. Also if they do the price will be significantly higher I'd Imagine. I'm a novice when it comes to swords and I don't own any yet at the moment so I'm not looking to spend 1500-3000 now. I do also suspect the saya to be a repaint. I understand the large majority of them are quite scuffed and scratched up which is part of the patina. Seeing one this nice and green does raise an eyebrow. I think I'll do a bid on this of €750 with the argument of the mismatched numbers and possible saya repaint. Hopefully the seller will take me seriously.
  8. What would you pay in the states for something like this. 6 or $700 ish?
  9. Nice. Thank you. What would be an acceptable price for the sword in this condition? The seller has posted a minimum of a €1000. I guess we should also keep in mind that in Europe these swords are maybe not as common as in the states or indeed Australia. Also with the mismatched numbers and all.
  10. Hey guys. I found this one on a local listing in Europe. What do you guys think? Genuine or fake? The seller of course says it's genuine however the numbers on the sword and scabbard aren't matching so maybe real sword, fake scabbard? Images aren't any sharper unfortunately.
  11. Thank you all for your reaction and confirming my suspicions. My search continues for the genuine article.
  12. Hello peeps, I'm new to Japanese Swords and this forum but I came here to verify a sword that was offered to me at a price of €950 at a militaria market in Western Europe. Doing my own research I already suspect it is a fake but I just wanted to make sure by letting you guys and gals take a look. I have some pictures. One of my main concerns is the quality of machining on the handle. Thank you all.
