  1. nature of things. If I was at the auction I'm sure I would have kept bidding for a little bit but no use crying over spilt milk..
  2. Yeah I was told by the manager earlier that it was not bent but I guess as the auction was on going someone else looked at it. I probably would not have withdrawn my bid honestly but in speaking to the manager I told him that I was glad to hear it was not bent as I did not have interest in a bent sword so he took that as a need to withdraw
  3. I thought it was mine as it sold for under my Max absentee bid but in speaking with the auction house they withdrew my bid as I told them I was not interested in dealing with a bent item
  4. Scratch that, just spoke with the auction house and my bid was contingent on it not being bent and evidently a theoretical specialist said that it was bent so they withdrew my bid. I guess that's good news as I don't want to deal with something of that sort
  5. Well the auction is over and it is mine. We will see tomorrow once I pick up if I am sad or not..
  6. I would not consider myself technologically literate enough to post a thing of the sort but it is not online. I found out about it locally and what pictures I have have been emailed to me
  7. To my knowledge no one has seen the nakago.. spoke with the auction house and the manager said as far as he knows the consigner and auction house have no idea and have not been able to get the handle off. Something about a gamble is always exciting but very seldom works out..
  8. I appreciate the reply. Shinshinto was my thought as I recently purchased something not dissimilar at auction for entirely too much money. This does seem to be a improved version of my previous mistake hopefully
  9. What he was getting at and I have been told the same by a few people is to trust judgment and things of that sort. Essentially if you like the sword by the sword but I think that rationale works a lot better with a much smaller price tag
  10. Not at all, this board is phenomenal and has an amazing wealth of knowledgeable people that love answering questions. Again my thought would be not having NBTHK papers that they like the NTHK assesment more... I'm sure you will soon get insight from more experienced people and I look forward to reading the responses though not as much as you do I'm sure
  11. I have been advised by smarter people than me in similar situations that likely it has been submitted and they did not like the attribution so stuck with the old papers..
  12. While I am relatively new to this type of collecting I can say from having asked a similar question that NBTHK is definitely the go to for larger purchases. I have been told especially if there is ever intention of resale so the question would then be why hasn't the seller already submitted it. If $15000 should be I imagine a th or juyo contender with NBTHK which would of course increase value.
  13. Just noticed a picture of a different sword snuck in there at the end. God-bless using the phone as a computer.
  14. Found this item at auction later today. Wondering if anyone can say anything about it.. of course knowing not much for pictures coupled with sandpaper and inability to get a look at the nakago There is not much to go on.. It is 28.25 inches long, 1 3/8 inch thick and almost 3/8 inch wide
  15. I am of the same opinion just always get scared when you read things on the Internet. Bob has taught me a lot in a relatively few email correspondences as to how to look at swords in general. I have no doubt he would steer me in the right direction But always appreciate the reassurance
  16. Thanks jean. I did after posting. Have been guaranteed refund for any reason so heres hoping something good comes back
  17. by .no means trying to hijack the thread as I know it's important to Peter but wondering about the green paper thing. I just bought a blade from Bob Benson which I have faith in and truly I do have faith in bob but of course it is being re submitted to shinsa through Bob with relative guarantees and currently has the green papers. What is the problem with the green papers? I understand they are not honored and it needs to be re submitted but is it not a good guide to go by?
  18. also seems to be koshi sori. rather shallow sori but deepest point seems about 4 inches from the machi.. Also from the shape of the nakago assuming it is shortened it probably would have been a more exaggerated version of koshi sori
  19. looks more like yakikomi if not mistaken which is entirely possible
  20. I appreciate the feedback. Can't be very upset with it regardless for $100 but of course happy to hear it might be on the older side and shortened..
  21. Also it is just about 19" from tip to munemachi
  22. Hamon definitely does not seem to have much activity to it and I will say the blade is on the thin side but I can't see any spots of core steel.
