  1. Some before pics via the seller.. no hopes for a national treasure but figure worth a 300 dollar gamble
  2. I appreciate it. Not the most excitable Smith but happy to have something koto. Probably spent too much for it but such is the way with money and things wanted
  3. I texted the owner about more detailed pictures of the blade given the forums concerns. That led to an absolute absence of response from a formerly rather responsive fellow. Very right they were it seems about the fire damage. That said this ship has sailed. But have bought several interesting things since then to keep me entertained for a while
  4. It seems everything I can find related to the Smith and the signature has osafune in the mix
  5. Appreciated. Any info on the smith? Still a novice but googling
  6. Been on a bit of a weird sword buying spree lately. Just picked this one up and wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it
  7. As always I very much appreciate the replies. I will make sure to post Before & After pictures when I get it. I am hoping for Wednesday.. Not expecting much out of the blade, likely an Arsenal made World War II but for $200 and an unknown signature figured worth the gamble....
  8. Thanks for the replies. I actually already have some goof off due to a child based art project on my kitchen counter.. Good times.
  9. Just purchased a sword online that is completely covered with what seems to be relatively dried up machine oil or the like. No telling what's underneath but it is almost literally covered with goo.. Soap and water?
  10. Well as unfortunate luck would have it I texted the owner about the fear of fire damage and asked for a picture of the tip of the sword and had no response. Evidently right on the money you guys were and thank you very much for saving me saving me from a failed purchase
  11. Well poop. As always I appreciate the educated advice from you guys. We'll post a close up picture towards the tip when I get it and make no moves until then.
  12. I appreciate the replies. As far as the story goes his grandfather brought it back post World War II and he remembers it having been rather pretty at 1 point but it had been in his basement for about 20 years until its rediscovery last week.. Of course stories are exactly that but wondering how would I tell if the monuchi had seen fire as opposed to rust?
  13. Figure worse case study it for a couple months and though it on good ole fleabay..
  14. Still kind of on the fence. Going to see it in person tomorrow and honestly not much you can do with 400 that you can't do without it. Just getting back into collecting a bit and tend to throw a donation once a month when I am active. Again appreciate the advice
  15. More importantly thank you for above help with translation and advice
  16. Well as it would figure responded to the seller that price was too high and now it is 400
  17. Just found this and have the option to purchase for 600. Definitely in relatively rough shape but no fatal falls that I have seen. Waiting on additional pictures to give more of an idea as to what it is but wondering ring 1st off if anyone can read the inscription and 2nd if anyone can tell me anything about it given its condition and if I am an ass for purchasing it.. I will add more pictures if helpful as soon as I get them. Thanks to anyone that can offer any advice
  18. Thanks! Anything particularly desirable about his swords? Not really into newer blades but if the price is right so be it..
  19. Looking to get this translated by anyone that can help.. It is a World War II era that I have an offer to purchase for 1000. Mounts and swords seemed to be in good shape
  20. better might be the wrong word. Maybe more desirable or something to the effect. I do like the idea of having something that is not commonly around I guess
  21. Thank you again very much for the information. Question then is it better to have a sword from a maker that has many works or to have a sword with only a few works catalogued in existence? The old papers for the blade attributed it to tsuneiye which there is a bit of info on... New nbthk papers put it to tsuguyuki which seems a lot more scarce...
  22. Amazed they are able to attributed to a specific Smith with such an absence of work available from him
  23. Thank you very much for the reply and unimaginable speed of reply. Once again this is an amazing site.. the blade is currently in line for sayagaki with Mr Tenobe then finally headed home tbh in hand.
  24. So just had a mumei katana papered to a tsuguyuki nambokucho kozori Smith.. I can't seem to find any info on this Smith and was wondering if anyone may know anything about him.. Thanks in any respect for the time
  25. Do you encounter fumbari in the more modern blades? Trying to get together different things to assess age
