  3. Again, without having attended a shinsa this is just speculation. What I want is proven fact.
  4. Maybe (English is not my native language), but where is the "competition" ? What you say is pure speculation, nothing else. Anyway, I'm not interested in that , what I am interested in is recognizing a swordsmith's work at the first glance (that's not the case for many).
  5. Usually the given nengo indicates the period where the smith was the most active
  6. Yoshi@ I would love to know what is a bright and soft nioiguchi...
  7. A clear misunderstanding of the process. Some swords from the same smith will never get juyo because they don't reach the required level. A quality criterion is in no way “competitive”, this isn't a forging contest.
  8. Tanobe sensei gets paid for his sayagaki, so he tends to embellish things.
  9. Not necessarily if it's due to wear from polishing it can get a hozon
  10. The Nihonto meikan, translated by Markus, makes the same mistake, underlining once again the need to always cross-reference to check the validity of what we read. Another source, Nihon koto-shi says that
  11. Wrong Is the rest of the text correct? What said Fujishiro
  12. Darcy was a dealer no more or less. He's never been to a shinsa and what he says is only his opinion. I met him in Tokyo and was able to judge the level of his knowledge. I don't believe anything, swords are judged on their artistic quality and I don't see how they can be put in “competition”. A Yamato is not comparable to a Bizen or a Soshu.
  13. Have you ever attended a Shinsa session? No, so don't talk about what you don't know.
  14. I fully disagree Ok. I was thinking more of a difference in the quality of the work than a simple fashion and market story.
  15. Measurements before all..
  16. Without measurements, we can't say anything. It's the basis of the basis of kantei.
  17. NBTHK is not going to say that a sword is good to throw away...
  18. In fact, the hozon only means that the sword has been made in the traditional way and that the signature, if it has one, is good, that's all.
  19. In Japan, this is commonplace, and many kazu-uchi mono have a hozon.
  20. When you shorten a nakago, you only file one side, whether it's signed or not.
  21. I think i know whom and that makes me laughing.
  22. If you don't know how to make a suriage, I can't help you. Oh !! Maybe there is. https://www.nihontomessageboard.com/articles/Suriage.pdf
