Another web site suggested Taira No Masamori ; problem is there isn't such a registered maker. Could this be a fake name ?

I could use some advice. What is the best way to sell a sword when I don't know anything about it except the tang markings and that it is in a WW2 mount ? I would need to maximize the price but don't even know where to start ? Can an old sword be shipped from Canada to USA or Europe ?

Can I assume a blade that old is likely worth a lot on the collector market ?

Blade looks like it was acid washed to highlight the layers. Hope I am wrong.

Fittings are nice but most of the value would be with the blade....how about some blade photos ?

So, for the painted green figures, nothing more than a factory count or inventory ? Not a date code or location or such ?

Thank you, now i understand. I had thought seki always meant stamped/hammered out out in a big factory by unnamed factory employees.

Understood but if not made in the traditional manner (ie: seki) , why did a "maker" sign the sword (as seen in pic 3) . I thought it was one (seki) or the other (maker signed) but never both (as is my sword blade).

OK , I get it .....not an NCO> But why does it have makers marks ( 3rd photo) and seki marks (1st photo) ?

Glad to find out it isn't a chinese repro but I am still confused why a seki blade would have a maker's marker . I though "seki" meant factory made so there shouldn't be a maker's name or info on the tang. Also, if not an NCO what is it ?

Just purchased a beat up NCO sword . Blade shows a seki (?) stamp and makers marks. Doesn't make sense to me unless : 1) it isn't a seki mark 2) it is a chinese fake. What am I missing ?

The sword blade is steel and will rust if it doesn't have a thin coat of oil or choji left on it. I have also been told not to oil the nagato at all, just the blade

Wasn't questioning the reasons, just wasn't sure of the blade. I think I see laminations in the steel which I didn't think occurred in machine made blade. Forgive me if I offended the OP, I still have a lot to learn about Japanes swords.

Is the serial number in the correct orientation for a genuine NCO ?

Thanks for the kind replies. I am up to 5 neutral now and have an idea of what it means. Maybe a "sticky" should be made to explain the rating system for future memebrs.

Can a member point me in the direction of the description of this site's member rating system ? Is it based on selling/buying or some other criteria ? I see I am a 2 neutral and that doesn't sound very good. Does 2 Neutral mean I piss off two people ?
