  1. Not questioning if it is legit, just not really worth buying and spend big bucks to polish it. Can't see any flaws neither. I guess the seller might be surprised be how much the wak can fetch himself....
  2. But why would you want it? It is $216 already and very likely to rise much more by sunday morning. Besides it is beginning of the month, I noticed people tend to willing to bid more (bloody hell, I was out bidded 3 times the past 2 days trying to get myself a yari..... sad thing is they outbid me by a merely a few dollars everytime). I wouldn't be suprised if the rusty wak fetchs 400USD and you still have to pay to have it polished knowing full well some of the rust pits can be too deep to be polished out...... Sometimes, if you are lucky, you can get a wak in OK condition for 600-800, once not too long ago I have picked up much nicer wak blade from Stephen/Larry for under 200, check pic..... To practice polishing, you can use a modern katana anyway..... BTW take a look at Stephen/larry's old for sale post, there might be somestuff left in lower price range.
  3. So i guess the #1 and 2 rules of bidding on e-bay apply: 1) don't bid on e-bay  2) don't bid if there's any doubt I got interested because of the strange hamon.....
  4. I found this on e-bay: 130138653443 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0138653443 The thing is very strange, it has temper line extending thru out the spine, the mei is up side down. The seller claims that it is WW2 and oil quenched. Looks very interesting but: 1) The ana in the tang was drilled by power tool 2) zero rust in the tang (if someone polished off the rust, the power tool mark wouldn't be there) 3) The jada is very very "loud" 4) What are the changes that someone in Japan will made a folded steel 14.5 in blade wak (can't be gunto) with hamon like that AND oil quench it? Am i looking at one of the better made faeks?
  5. I have read on Richard Stein's "THE Japanese SWORD GUIDE" website that sword canes have been of inferior quality and that they were thin. This one seems really odd... Regards :-) There are exceptions to every rule, I suppose. I had read that they were often of inferior quality... that doesn't mean that a few custom pieces weren't brilliant. But could it be somthing in this line? http://www.swordforum.com/fall99/token-kai-3.html (Brian the mod, not sure if I am allowed to put links to other forum , if not, I will delet it..... ) Maybe a Samurai so wanted a ken but couldn't afford/find a smith to make one that he had his yari mounthed as a sword. Or someone didn't need a spear anymore (peace time?) but wanted to do something with his "family spear"....... :D
  6. I actually found one on Amazon for 90USD, would get myself one if I was into gunto (and I am not)....... http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... 937&sr=8-1
  7. I got myself a Shinto wak and it came with 2 seppa (different sizes). One of them has a proof-mark/Arsenal-stamp looking thing on it (it almost look like the Shirakiya Guntobu company logo), is it an arsenal/company stamp?
  8. Thanks guys! Simon san, concerning “the encyclopedia of Japanese swordsâ€, does it mean if I understand Japanese, the book will be a good read then? I am Chinese (So I understand 40% of Japanese characters anyway) with limited education on how to read Japanese and have a dictionary plus my land lord/flat mate’s wife is Japanese.
  9. I have been looking for a copy of Toko Taikan by Tokuno but with no luck. Does any one know where I can get a copy? Also, has any one read the encyclopaedia of Japanese swords publish by Gakken, is it a good beginner book (I already have The Connoisseur's Book of Japanese Swords, The Japanese Sword by Sato and The Samurai Sword by Yumoto)? The cover says that it covers swords from decoration sword from koto period to “mid-age†Tachi to Daisho. Sounds very interesting to me....
