    Help with Saya

Picked up a Kai-Gunto this weekend with naval tsuka, tsuba, 1943 stainless blade, etc., but had an interesting saya. Any help on it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brandon
  3. I will try to look this up myself when I get back from treatments. Thanks in advance. -Brandon
  4. It is not magnetic. Brandon
  5. Thanks a ton, Mark! Thinking a leather cover is the way to go on this one in that case. Now just need to find one. -Brandon
  6. last pic. -Brandon
  7. gooIs this scabbard correct? I know the screw is not at the top. Is this one that would have been in a leather cover or just poor condition in general? Thanks, Brandon
  8. Chris & Joe, I thought the prices of $12k and the quoted $25k were very high too. Found another suriage by Yoshimichi for $6500 that was papered, but most of the signature cut off. Anyways, unless it was really cheap, and I'm talking under $1000, I can't do it so I thought I'd share and hope one of you guys was a smooth talker to get a fair price on it . All bought up right now, (I mainly do bayonets, knives & guns, but swords are definitely the most interesting and fun to study, in the process of doing some cleaning out to free up some cash) so I didn't even try. -Brandon
  9. Not sure if I posted in correct place. Is it Gimei or right? -Brandon
  10. Have at it, much higher than I could possibly afford. He claims someone told him if he got it papered it'd sell for $25k in Japan and that he's been low balled by a bunch of dealers. Didn't even make him an offer was just asking about it. http://savannah.craigslist.org/atq/3731118311.html My translation is Tanba (no) Kami Yoshimichi. http://home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/yoshmich.htm -Brandon
  11. Thanks, Stu. Tsuba is 9mm. -Brandon
  12. And some more. Also included my Type 14 (that I finally got back after waiting for 7 months) even though this is a sword forum, umm Nihonto forum... -Brandon
  13. More Pictures. -Brandon
  14. Give up trying to correct duplicate photos from my phone. -Brandon
  15. I don't see anything wrong with this but I like to get 2nd opinions Thanks, Brandon
  16. Katsumasa vs Yoshimasa? -Brandon
  17. Very cool. -Brandon
  18. Haha, the more I look at it, the more I don't like it. Gut has said run like hell since the beginning but the handle, and Nakago at first, were throwing me off. I'm glad I have you guys here to prevent me from making mistakes when I get excited over something. Oh, and the parts of the blade I did see were very representative of the Chinese copies. Thanks, Brandon
  19. I was recently offered this but my guy is telling me to run as fast as I can. Additional opinions would be greatly appreciated. My analysis: Habaki doesn't look right As far as I can tell nakago looks okay, don't like where it was drilled Haven't seen just a stainless scabbard or one where it was rubbed to look like this Handle & tsuba look okay Thanks, Brandon
  20. Thanks guys. I knew it wasn't right, just hadn't seen the Kai Guntos. Tried to tell guy it was Chinese to prevent someone from getting screwed, said he had it professionally appraised. Well, tried to save someone there. -Brandon
  21. Nothing? Anyone else seeing these out there? -Brandon
  22. This is the first I've seen on a Kai Gunto copy. Either I am wrong or just haven't paid attention to or seen too many fake Kai Guntos out there. -Brandon
  23. Hey Keith, Got a PM from Grey last night and money has been sent Thanks a ton! -Brandon
  24. Looks like appropriate aging to the Nakago, but sooo terrible with the Mei (never got those flash cards I asked for for Christmas :D ). Any opinions greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone here sell Kanji flashcards? Thanks, Brandon
