Rare Maedate (Kabuto helmet ornament) representing a Japanese Oni-Shigami demon head. Edo period. Urushi lacquered wood with gilding and inlays of animal hair and what appear to be plant strands. The horns are removable, and secured by small bamboo pins located at the back of the maedate. Excellent quality of manufacture and the state of conservation is remarkable. The fixing hole is a « female » type and is approximately 1 x 0.5 cm in size. Maedate dimensions : Approximately 29 x 25 cm (horns included) 1800 € Shipping included.
