I recall Jim G.'s opinion is that those are not " true " tsuba. I've seen most of that in late edo/Meiji pieces. However, Christie's, Sotheby's list them as tsuba. I suppose they are not " functional " but more like presentation pieces. Jim G. ( I recall ) thinks " decoration " onto seppa dai area is fine as long as they are " flat ". :lol: at least that's what my memory tells me.........could be wrong and/or Jim G. never said that. milt The ronin
