Drago Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 Hi, I'm in the (long) process of restoring a Type 3 blade. Unfortunately, I don't have the original locking clip, but I have two others. Could you please tell me: How far can you draw the blade until the clip stops you? Is is just a bit (like less than 1mm) or is there more "leeway"? Thanks. Quote
george trotter Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 Hi Tobias, usually the notch is cut in the clip so that as you push the sword gently into the saya, you will hear the "click" of the clip snapping into its notch exactly as the front seppa meets the saya mouth. With the clip in place there should be no movement in-out at all. There is sometimes some wear which allows a bit of in-out movement but this is not an intentional thing. Feel free to send me pics and measurements of your clips (notch to front edge of button) and also send the measurement of your tsuka/tsuba/seppa area (from "notch" inside saya mouth to front edge of button hole in fuchi). I have 2 or 3 clips myself and also need one for a type 3...maybe we can swap if things match? Regards, Quote
