edzo Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Hi to members, I picked this up for $10US (Salvation Army Outlet), I like woodblock prints. Woodblock appears to be 50s. Obviously an exodus from a castle maybe 14-15 century event?. Thought the knowledgable historians here might see something revealing to the event??? Can anyone attribute it? I'm sure is only one sheet from an album. Thanks, Ed Quote
Toryu2020 Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Ed - Most likely a scene from Heike Monogatari judging by the armour and accoutrement. Printed much later though, not a heian era image... -t Quote
Markus Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 To be more precise, it is a scene from the "Heiji-monogatari-emaki". Take a look at this link and check the Interactive Scroll Viewer. Somewhat to the right of the center part you will find your scene... http://learn.bowdoin.edu/heijiscroll/ Quote
