cabowen Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Here is one a bit different someone sent me.....Masa hiro (?) Saku.....Lacquer reads 75 ? ? Maybe one of our Japanese members can figure this one out???? Thanks.... Quote
Markus Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 I think the part after 75 reads "ôju" (翁壽), about "old and long-lived". Maybe someone has a better English translation... Quote
cabowen Posted July 16, 2011 Author Report Posted July 16, 2011 Thanks Marcus..I think you have it....but strange this would be added in lacquer.... Quote
k morita Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Hi, I agree with Markus's reading as red lacquer Kanji. I think the mei says " Masahiro saku ". 正 弘 作 The second kanji character "Hiro" doesn't read easily and be writing of one's own way. However, this 2nd kanji character is surely "hiro". 弘 Quote
k morita Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Hi, As you know,it is more difficult to specify the province("kuni") because there were a lot of same name sword-smiths. Quote
cabowen Posted July 17, 2011 Author Report Posted July 17, 2011 Yes, I am aware of that.... It looks a little like the early signature of Ota Chikahide.....I will have to see more of the blade before any further conclusions can be drawn.... Quote
k morita Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Oh, was it Gendaito. !! There were 5 smith, same kanji Masahiro at that time. Ota Masahiro, Shizuoa-ken. Fujikawa Masahiro, Hiroshima-ken. Shibata Masahiro, Aichi-ken. Sekimoto Masahiro, Fukushima-ken. Inoue Masahiro, Ishikawa-ken,Kanazawa. I feel that Fujikawa Masahiro's mei looks alike a little. Quote
cabowen Posted July 17, 2011 Author Report Posted July 17, 2011 I do not know for certain if it is a gendaito or not, I just thought the mei looked vaguely similar to the early, and rare, mei of Ota Chikahide of Shizuoka.....If I get further info, perhaps we can identify the smith with some certainty.....
