Sergio Bastos Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Hi, can anyone help me in the translation of this kogatana mei? thanks Sergio Quote
Mark C Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Hi Sergio, I'll have a go with "Bingo Minamoto Masa Tsune" many thanks regards mark Quote
Nobody Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Hi, The mei reads Sagami (no) kami Masatsune (相模守政常). Quote
Sergio Bastos Posted February 20, 2007 Author Report Posted February 20, 2007 Hi Mark and Nobody; thanks for your reply, I think I have a nice kogatana, it have a hamon with mont fuji to! but I´m a litle confuse! wich translation is correct? Sergio Quote
sencho Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 備後 this was the BINGO I think Mark was going with, however Moriyama san's 相模 is correct - SAGAMI KAMI is second word (thrid kanji) 守 Last two Kanji correct by Mark and Moriyama san is 政常 MASA TSUNE.... MASATSUNE Generally we all have an opinion on different mei's, Sergio, but Moriyama san trumps us all 99.99% of the time so believe his version!! Moriyama san... Trying to get that MASA on the keyboard is a right pain.... eventually had to type MASAKO and delete the KO 子 it's going to take me years to get to grips with this!! CHEERS! Quote
Nobody Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Hi, FYI: I just found a kogatana with the same mei. https://www.aoi-art.com/auction/en/auct ... 1165718630 Quote
sencho Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Looks like it was carved by a different person though, don't you think? Sergio, Can you show some more pictures of blade and hamon? Cheers Quote

Mark C Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Hi Sergio, Sencho and Nobody, Sorry about that, I don't know what I was thinking and what makes it worse is that I have one almost identicle to yours At least I got the Masatsune correct. regards Mark Quote
Sergio Bastos Posted February 21, 2007 Author Report Posted February 21, 2007 thank you all for your help... sencho, I try to take some pictures of the kogatana, but is dificult!!! but it have a similar hamon (almost the same as the kogatana in AOI ART) the "nakago" is similar to but the cutting edge is a litle diferent is more elegant and more carefuly done. regards and thanks Sergio Quote
