kusunokimasahige Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Lectori Salutem, I sometimes come across photos on auction sites of swords which in stead of having a bright hamon and a darker toned shinogi and hiragi, seem to have the reverse, ie the hamon is dark, and the rest is light. What i mean is this : Has this to do with photography ? Age or wear ? Bad polishing ? What is the name for it in Japanese ? Hope you can answer my question. regds, KM Quote
Stone Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Not polish, but a acid wash or dip or simillar IMHO! Tony N. Quote
Thekirsh Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 This appearance is usually the result of someone running finger stones over the whole blade so they can see the hamon. Simon Quote
loui Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Someone ran a quick foundation on it and then ended up with the uchigumori with some quick fingerstoning. I can still see scratches from all the other stones in the process that were left behind. Louis Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 Thank you very much for your answer Louis, it startled me somehow seeing a few blades which had this dark hamon, light shinogi trait. Knowing that it was done with fingerstones explaines a lot. KM Quote
