jester78 Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hello this is my first post in the forums. I have only just started to get involved in collecting and was wondering if anyone knows if there are any nihonto clubs in australia. i have looked but I cant seem to find any. Thanks for any help in this matter Quote
DanBaker Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hi Jester, I haven't come across any societies in Australia, any formal ones anyway. I did hear that there used to be one some time ago but it closed up (someone out there can correct me if I'm wrong here). I guess we just don't have the population here like in the US, Japan or Europe. Where are you located? I'm in Brisbane. It's always good to know people in Aus into nihonto since it's nice and near-by. Drop me an email if you like, my address is danielbaker@aapt.net.au Cheers, Dan. Quote
tonyb Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hi Dan and Jester i live in perth and while a know of a few sword collectors on this side of the country there doesnt appear to be collecting club as such. Cheers Tony Quote
jester78 Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 Thanks for the info. I have purchased a sword on ebay already from a seller saying that it is a nihonto made by his grandfather in Japan and think i have been burnt. That is why i wanted to know if there was a club i could join so i dont get ripped off again. I guess you learn from your mistakes it is just the bank account that hurts alot) Are there dealers in australia that are worth while talking too? Thanks again for your help Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hi Jester, There is a fellow on SFI that mentioned his interest in starting a club. Here is a link to the thread. Unless you are the same fellow? John http://forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=76312 Quote

Rich T Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Hi all, there used to be the JSSA ( Japanese sword society of Australia ) but it folded some years back. There is no club here now, just collectives of friends who get together but they are mostly pretty closed for the most part. There are NO polishers in Australia who are qualified to restore Nihonto. Full Stop. It is not so much about our size but more the fact that with Liability Insurance required for it, the cost to cover a bunch of blokes waving swords around is what ruined the last group.
