Gentleman, I hope all is well. Been awhile since my last post but found a sword today, right out of the woodwork and in its storage case(WW2 vet bring back) need some help with the translation, the one end is covered with what looks like mud but could be rust but I'm extremely reluctant to clean it to read. Anyone offer some assistance, thoughts on translation and care of the tang. Thanks

Fritz

Here are some additional pictures, one of the tip and the other of the temper. The cutting edge measures 27.25inches and from tip to tang end is 35.5 inches, the thickness at the tang is 3/8 of an inch.
