Original to what? Never fitted to a sword probably. I do not think it is modern, if that is what you mean. It seems to be in Hikone (Soten) style, which became popular throughout Japan in the Edo period.

Thank you. I just bought it to fit it to the Kaifu sword I posted earlier.

                   I don't blame you for wanting to replace that copper guard - if they are not  mass produced they are  so common they they may as well be!  A mix of good utsushi and factory produced - but you only know that after you pay the cash and it is often too late!
