brentlewiis Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Please find attached images of some menuki, recently acquired. I find them interesting for a number of reasons. They do not seem cast, and to my untrained eye seem to show evidence of repousse work. The posts do not appear to have been soldered in place. Each one has a small teardrop-shaped piece of brass soldered in one corner. I believe these may be related to the menuki having been scanned somehow or molds taken from them as very accurate copies of these exact objects are currently being sold on eBay. I have also considered that the modifications might relate to some repurposing such as use on a tobacco pouch. I am interested to know your thoughts. 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Lucian, as you can see yourself, the photos are not well focused, so details cannot be seen. In my opinion cast MENUKI, but I may be proved wrong with good photos. 1 Quote

ROKUJURO Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 Much better, and probably UCHI-DASHI technique, so not cast. But an expert should see them in-hand, of course. You have sword clubs in CA, and probably also sword shows where friendly dealers will offer their opinion. 1 Quote
