Gab79 Posted Wednesday at 05:41 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:41 PM Hello, I recently bought my first Japanese sword, and I would like to ask for help with this. The inscription on the nakago is Fujiwara Yukishige saku. It is probably a Bungo sword, but not sure, and it could be a gimei. None of the Yukishige smiths I have found quite match. I bought this: https://katana-boutique.com/collections/katana/products/antique-Japanese-sword-s03703-yukishige Thanks in advance Quote
Lewis B Posted Wednesday at 06:18 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:18 PM I don't see any "Fujiwara Yukishige" referenced in Markus Sesko's eSwordsmiths. 1 Quote
Shugyosha Posted Wednesday at 06:48 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:48 PM It may seem like cold comfort, but it looks like what you have is quite a nice Shinto katana. The seller hasn’t oversold this as (sorry) the Bungo smiths are mostly not that sexy, so it may be gimei or just an unrecorded smith (or one outside a mainline textbook)… Hopefully you didn’t speculate on the signature and can just enjoy it for what it is and can learn from and enjoy your new sword. 1 Quote
