His teacher was the founder of the school, Moritaka; Moritaka was Sairen’s nephew and student. Kongōbyōe swords are known for their strength and functionality as front line weapons. These smiths are descended from monks who defended Japan against the Mongol invasions of Hakata Bay in 1274 and 1281. This sword comes in koshirae. The steel has a darker hue typical of Kyushu work, with nie crystals sprinkled throughout the blade. Sugata: This sword features a wide, flat and powerful Nanbokucho sugata, with a long kissaki. Koshirae: Standard level koshirae with menuki of water dragons; tsuba is iron with openwork floral motif. Happy to answer questions if you have any.
