JTJ3 Posted Saturday at 04:46 PM Report Posted Saturday at 04:46 PM I have a sword that my grandfather owned. Looking for a translation of the tang for historical research. AI has given me information, but I wanted to see if an actual person has the same thoughts. I have included a link to the google drive photos. Let me know if the link doesn't work. Thanks for all info! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-4p_wrTa6ZTOxX_TCuD1RGpCkL5vOdMX?usp=share_link Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted Saturday at 04:54 PM Report Posted Saturday at 04:54 PM Your sword is signed - 伯耆守平朝臣正幸 / 文化年寅八月日 - Hōki no Kami Taira Ason Masayuki / 1806 8th month (I think he might be also read Masayoshi but I usually read Masayuki) 3 Quote
JTJ3 Posted Saturday at 07:03 PM Author Report Posted Saturday at 07:03 PM Awesome, thanks! That's what Gemini said, too. Now to get it authenticated, hopefully. I've been reading about this sword maker and it's very interesting! Quote
dkirkpatrick Posted yesterday at 01:41 AM Report Posted yesterday at 01:41 AM Not to dash your hopes about authentication a bit I would bet 100$ this signature is not authentic (gimei as it’s known in the collecting community). I say this because I’ve seen this mei enough to know that it looks like it but appears to be poorly cut not in keeping with examples of my memory. I’m not currently looking at my books to compare but guessing others will and will chime in. Doug Quote
