This sword was given to my son by his great grandfather. I'm trying to identify and gain some information for him. His grandfather got it the war.

Thank you for any help.

Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,

Your son’s sword is a Model 1883 Navy Officer’s sword. These saw service through WW2. A fairly common sword, but less common than the Army equivalent dress swords.

Thank you, I have seen some similar but none had the paracord looking wrap.

He actually got it off a Officer but don't have the full story.

I have a couple of swords with the paracord wrapping that was done by US sailors and Coast Guard’s men when they were heading back to the states from Japan post war. It’s a part of the history of the sword and I decided to leave it in place. It’s not particularly valuable but because of the family history I would never sell it!
