Hello,

I'm submitting this signature of a wakizashi (sunobi tanto) that poses a dating problem.

The signature is

Choshu no ju nio Masakiyo

and the dating for what I'm translating is

Enkyo hachi nen ju gatsu jitsu

But for the swordsmith Masakiyo of Nagato, there are three generations:

1st kanbun 2nd genroku 3rd hoei

what do you think?

regards

Bernard

There are very many unlisted smiths around 1710-1750. Economy collapsed, nobody bought swords and the whole generation of swordsmiths struggled and disappeared without leaving much of a record. So Enkyo to me looks plausible.
