Hi Rain,

The sword is signed, "Bushu Ju Fujiwara Masanaga." Resident of Bushu (Musahsi Province) Fujiwara Masanaga. Fujiwara is often termed "clan" in English and Masanaga is the smith's name. The only reference included in my Index that has oshigata from this smith is the Shinto Taikan, page 676-7. Hawley's has him working at 1648. Other than that there isn't much I can tell you. Maybe others will have more and better information. Looks like a nice sword; congratulations.

Hi Rain:

That is probably not your real name but if I am wrong I apologise and your post is signed. I agree with Grey and why would you think it gimei? The sword looks fine and the mei as well and there is not much likelihood someone would fake the signature on this smith. Did it come with both shirasaya and the mounts you show - very nice - did you buy it or was it a gift?

My real name is Francesco...

The sword came with the koshirae and the shirasaya shown in the pictures.... and no it's not a gift: i have been looking for the "perfect sword" fore more than one year..

I intended to buy a shinsakuto at first, but at the end i decided for a sword with a "story".

May be you're right: the smith is not so high ranked to justify a gimei..

ciao

F.
