ChadKurle Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Gentlemen, I was at an estate auction and got caught up in the bidding and ended up purchasing this sword. Hoping anyone can shed a little light on what I purchased. My sincere thanks, Chad Quote
Brian Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Chad, From the pics..apparently you bought loads and loads of carpet....with a blade in the middle somewhere. Crop for us dial-uppers please From what I can see, looks like a pre-ww2 swords that was remounted and taken to war. Shortened quite a bit at some stage, and looks to have potential maybe. That is assuming no major flaws, and without seeing close-ups of the tang, blade etc. I bet it was cheap, and if so, looks like you maybe did ok. Again..assuming no flaws or retempering etc. Brian Edit to add: looking at the nakago close-up, bit concerned about the frash look to the lower makugo ana. Doesn't look done very long ago. Patina looks like it stops abruptly too. Could be artificially aged a bit, or not.... Real Nihonto though. Quote
ChadKurle Posted July 18, 2009 Author Report Posted July 18, 2009 LOL... I will take some new and hopefully better pictures. My understanding is the sword has been owned for sometime by a regional collector of militaria. thanks Quote
ChadKurle Posted July 19, 2009 Author Report Posted July 19, 2009 So far I have learned two things... I am a bit of a sucker when it comes to being at an auction live. (I hate to lose) and I am a horrible photographer. I attached some additional photographs (and attempted to crop them down a touch). Quote
