Klop Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 Gentlemen, Not Nihonto but a nice piece of old metal anyway; I bought this single bronze vase of just 9 cm tall about a year ago. Now I've got a signature book and I still cannot find anything My very long shot for the second character is "moto" but that's about it. Even about the spaces I am not sure, but I lean towards 5 characters divided like in the picture with yellow markings (especially no 3 and 4 raise doubt) . Is that correct? Has someone got an idea about this inscription? I guess there used to be a twin vase once to form a set for a family altar, a single vase of this size seems a bit strange to me. But then again, that's just a feeling and not knowledge. All ideas are welcome! Best regards, Eric. Quote

Nobody Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 It seems that there were several generations of craftsmen with that art name in Kyoto. Ryumondo First generation of Ryumondo was Samurai from Tanba no Kuni Kameyama. He became interested in Bronze work, he moved to Kyoto in 1764. He invented lost wax processing. He used Ryumon as pen name. He died on 1798. Second of Ryumon name was Yasunosuke, he used Ryumondo as pen name. He succeeded his father job. He created Yatate, Suiteki and koro. He brought in Chinese style design. He died 1841(Tenpo 12th), late Edo. This Yatate was made by 2nd or 3rd Ryumondo. Ref. http://www.sanaiantiques.com/items/7776 ... store.html Quote
