tokashikibob Posted October 26, 2022 Report Posted October 26, 2022 Hello, A friend a mine got ahold of a few WW2 era swords. One had a loose fitting leather combat cover which had quite a bit of kanji on wooden saya side when the cover was slipped off. I told him it was probably a prayer but figured you guys can confirm or deny. Quote
SteveM Posted October 26, 2022 Report Posted October 26, 2022 Can't read any of it. Some close-ups might help. I think its more likely to be something boring - maybe the name and address of the purchaser, or some measurements. Quote
tokashikibob Posted October 27, 2022 Author Report Posted October 27, 2022 Maybe these cropped photos will post a bit cleaner. Doesn't look like the typical address, but maybe something interesting for the Military sword section of NMB. Best regards, Bob Quote
SteveM Posted October 27, 2022 Report Posted October 27, 2022 Kind of looks like this part says 東照宮 (Tōshōgū), a name that is used for a number of shrines affiliated with Tokugawa Ieyasu (primarily the one in Nikkō, but there are others). I can't read much of the rest. Note enough to be useful, anyway. 1 Quote
tokashikibob Posted October 28, 2022 Author Report Posted October 28, 2022 Thanks Steve, definitely not the lost Masamune. Quote
