You're going to have to be a bit more specific on what you're looking for! Papered vs not, mumei or signed, price range, length, shirasaya or combat mounts, etc.

Papered? Depends, I don't believe on what's on 80% of papers.  The question would be, what has happen to the sword since the papers have been issued? Could be since the 70's?

mumei or signed? Depends, many mumei swords are Juyo and many are attributed signed Hozan  I'm not looking for Juyo papers!

Length? 26" + not shorten  Price? Depends on the sword.  shirasaya? Yes

Price? Depends on the above. Their is a reason I don't participate on message boards. :) Oh, USA only please!

Thanks

Pat

You should believe the papers issued by the NBTHK! They're as close to a definitive answer as one can ever get.

If you're talking about the old green papers? Then yes, disregard those. But modern issued ones are ones you can trust.

So what I am getting is you'd like a 26"+ koto blade in shirasaya, papers are a bonus but not necessary. Well, if you keep your eyes open, you'll find something! There's already a few posted in the sales section. You could also check dealers' sites that are linked at the top of the page.

Thank you Chris

This is only my opinion. Papers aren’t a bonus for me as they are a hindrance.  I use the same rule as flying a helicopter, 90% of the time I’m looking out the window and 10% looking at the 3 gauges that matter. Papers do little, or nothing for me.

Thanks Brian,

Ah yes, price $

I really don’t like telling anyone what’s in my wallet. Same reason prices aren’t on swords at shows and dealer pages. On that note, sword specs aren’t on many dealers pages. Art is very subjective and very emotional at times. Everyone believes what they own is much more valuable than it is and that includes ME. I may buy one sword worth $10’s of thousands, or a few worth a few thousand a piece. It’s Art, I don’t know until it talks to me. I can promise I will respect you and receive the same. I won’t be offended what price you want and don’t be offended on the price I’m willing to pay.

I understand were you're coming from as a purist. I'm at the stage where I don't need anyone telling me a sword is attributed to one of 3 smiths in 3 generations. Let alone paying for the time and money. Now Juyo is another matter. IMOP I've seen 100 swords that should be Juyo not make Juyo. I also don't like the fact of Monopolies unless it's a board game. jk

Does anyone know if Danny Massey is still around?

Yes, got my first sword off of him a couple years back and his book more recently. Hasn’t had as large inventory as he used to but still a couple there:

…and great to buy from. I can share his email via PM, but I think it’s on the site above too.
