Babu Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 Just put a shingunto in the for sale section could you look and see if you can offer any information into what the mounts are? I believe NCO was mentioned. Thank you Adam Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 Adam You've got an old blade re-fitted for the war in army fittings. The tsuka/tsuba are Type 98 Army officer with the leather covering what is likely the original saya. Puzzling is the worse-for-wear NCO tassel. I've seen a number of these lately and don't know what to think. The easy answer is G.I. grabs any tassel he can find and puts it on his war trophy before going home; or post-war collector did it. But what post war collector would put just the leather strap missing the knot at the end. This looks war-era to me. Ignoring the tassel, that's what you've got. Quote
Babu Posted October 5, 2020 Author Report Posted October 5, 2020 Great there was no tassel it's cut at 45 degrees on both ends and is old old leather. Easily as old as the rest of the leather but untreated. So softer. So type 98 thank you👍 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 Adam, After looking at the rest of the pics, one shows the blade in a very old tsuka. Which one came with the blade, the WWII army or the civil? Quote
Babu Posted October 5, 2020 Author Report Posted October 5, 2020 Sorry the picture was wrong and removed. Quote
