Generically called a socketed spear. The Japanese did make them - they called them fukuro yari - but they are much less common than the tanged variety. Kevin Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 Thnx for the info Kev! How daft, i bid on it and they start up some naff age verifying screen where ebay wants your credit card number to verify you are above the age of 18... well i dont have a credit card nor will i ever again have one! ill let this one go then.. Ebay UK also is a place to shun from now on... KM Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 ill let this one go then.. KM, no regrets on this one, you're making a favour to yourself. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 TY Carlo! Well, for my Samurai re-enactment i dont need a really old one (or real) of course... ill just wait till i get lucky some other day  .. I have seen some reasonable replicas on the net, also of Jumon-ji Yari.. KM Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 It is said that Fukuro Yari were useful in battle as they were easy to fix onto something like the end of a section of bamboo, for example, with no serious hassle. I've got two or three. You need to make sure they have yaki-ire. The blades tend to be shorter than 15 cm and not to need paperwork. Glad you hesitated with this one! Definitely modern, made nowadays both in China and in Japan, and can be seen recently on sale in street markets. Never clearly marked as 'young' though. Fine if you need something for displays, I expect. Quote
