Nickupero Posted May 14, 2019 Report Posted May 14, 2019 Hello Katchu friends. Was wondering if I could get some more info on the armorer "Haruta Munetsugu". What were his years of activity more of less, was this recorded somewhere. Was told he was active Muromachi period? More precise dates if possible and how good of a armorer was he? Quote
IanB Posted May 14, 2019 Report Posted May 14, 2019 Nic, Sasama in Shin Katchushi Meikan states that Munetsugu worked in the late Muromachi, Momoyama and early Edo period living in Nara and in Saiga. He was supposed to be the son of Katsuyoshi and moved from Nara to Edo in 1626 where he was employed by the bakufu.“ This entry refers to the early Edo-period Munetsugu but there were supposed to be several generations. Nickupero Posted May 14, 2019 Author Report Posted May 14, 2019 Wow Ian, thank you. Couldn't have asked for a better reference and so fast on your part. Again a big thanks! Quote
myochin Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 Hi Nic, As a reference, there is a 16-plate akoda-nari signed Munetsugu 宗次 in the Shôgyô-ji (正行寺) in Matsumoto (松本) in Nagano Prefecture dating to the late Muromachi period Illustration n°26 in: Nihon no Katchû - Buki Bugu no Sekai 日本の甲冑・武器武具の世界~武家の装いを支えたモノづくりの伝統 3 February - 18 March 2018 Paul 2 Quote
IanB Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 Paul, I'm glad you added that. I am always concerned about quoting too much from Sasama's book in case of copyright transgressions. Ian Bottomley Quote
